Escapement Desmodromic

Shock-resistant escapement, inspired by Ducati motorcycle

Description

The phrase “Desmodromic” means “force the way” and is used to describe the valvetrainconstruction (elimination of valve springs) of the motorcycle Ducati. Christian used this principle to build a shock-resistant chronometer escapement. The pivoted detent is crafted with one locking pallet and one return pallet (see original sketches below). At the end of the impulse, one tooth of the chronometer wheel slides under the return pallet and forces the detent to return into locking position. The construction guarantees secure locking during shock.
